Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the most streamed song within six months. The single a mix of reggaeton and pop music not only brought renewed interest to reggaeton, but also drew interest towards Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 included four mostly Spanish songs from 2016 compared with two for 2015. But during the peak of the Despacito's popularity in 2017 there were 19 predominantly Spanish tracks that made the Top 100. In 2020, there were 41. Justin Bieber's remix in two languages Despacito came out in the year 2017. Then, numerous pop stars began to collaborate with reggaeton performers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny for MIA (2018), and Madonna worked with Maluma in the creation of Medellin. By 2020 a few reggaeton stars were complaining about its inclination towards mainstream but a new generation of performers, including Rauw Alejandro, sought to keep reggaeton evolving. Incorporating elements of electronic dance music, and various other genres was a typical procedure.
